A Travellerspoint blog

Leaving on a jet plane!

Exams are over and the students have had a week to get their bag packed and ready for the trip. We have a diverse group of students travelling with us this year. It is a large group this year - 38 students and three instructors. For some this will be their first big trip off the North American continent. For some this is the first trip travelling on their own. I am pretty sure that there will be some culture shock when we arrive in Lima late tomorrow night.

We will be travelling with the tour company, GAdventures which is a Canadian based tourism success story. In 1990 Bruce Poon Tip founded the company with two credit cards and a desire to create an authentic sustainable travel experience. This past Tuesday Bruce returned to his Calgary roots to deliver a talk about 'The Future of Tourism". The audience was inspired by his passion for travel and his vision of how tourism can make the world a better place. It was most exciting to hear about the two GAventure initiatives in Peru that we will be visiting - the children's drop-in school in Cuzco and the Women's Weaving Project in the Sacredd Valley.

Thanks for checking in and reading about our adventure. We hope to be able to share with you many exciting stories in the coming days.
